TikTok Ads Tutorial (2026) – Quick Start Guide
Want to run your first TikTok ad but have no idea where to start? This quick-start tutorial walks you through the entire process — from creating your TikTok Ads Manager account to publishing your very first campaign.

1. Sign Up for TikTok Ads Manager
The very first step is creating your TikTok Ads Manager account. Head to the link in the description (or use this partner link) to get started.
TikTok occasionally offers ad credit bonuses for new advertisers — for example, spending 200 and getting an additional 200 in credits. Terms apply, so read them carefully.
One important note: do not sign up via Shopify, as that route is excluded from partner promotions. Sign up directly via email and password, then fill in your basic business details.
2. Set Up the TikTok Conversion Pixel
Before launching a sales campaign, you need to track your conversions. In the Ads Manager, go to Tools → Events to open the Events Manager.
Click Connect Data Source, then select Website. Enter your website URL and choose a partner integration — most users will pick either Shopify or WooCommerce.
For Shopify, TikTok gives you a step-by-step guide. Simply go to your Shopify App Store, search for "TikTok", install the app, and connect it to your Ads Manager.
Once connected, browse your shop to trigger some events and verify that they appear in the Events Manager.

3. Create Your First TikTok Ads Campaign
Go to Campaigns and click Create. Choose Sales as your objective, select Website, and then pick Manual Campaign to keep full control over your settings.
Give your campaign a clear name — for example, "watches" if you're selling watches. Then click Continue.

4. Choose Placement and Targeting Options for TikTok Ads
At the Ad Group level, name your group and select your pixel. Then choose your optimization event — for e-commerce this is typically Add to Cart or Purchase.
For placement, it's recommended to manually select TikTok only and deselect the TikTok Business Partner Network if you only want your ads appearing on TikTok itself.
TikTok recommends keeping targeting broad and letting its AI find the right audience. That's a reasonable approach, but at a minimum, set your location and age range.
You can also add interest targeting — for example, "watches" to reach people with a purchase intention in that category. Aim for an audience of at least a few million to give TikTok's algorithm enough room to optimize.
Set your daily budget — TikTok requires a minimum of $20/day. You don't need a target CPA yet if you're just starting out and don't have data.

5. Upload Your Video Creatives
Now comes the fun part — uploading your ad creative. At the Ad level, name your ad and click Add Video.
You have two options: connect your TikTok account and use an existing post (called a TikTok Spark Ad), or simply upload a new video file from your desktop.
Once your video is uploaded, add a text caption — TikTok's AI will even suggest copy options for you.
Next, choose a Call to Action from the dropdown. TikTok will automatically test different CTAs to find what performs best for your campaign.
Finally, add the destination URL — the product page or website you want to send traffic to. Always click Preview to confirm the link is working correctly before publishing. A broken URL is one of the most common mistakes new advertisers make.

6. Publish Your TikTok Ad Campaign
Once everything looks good, hit Publish. If it's your first time, TikTok will prompt you to add a payment method — credit card or PayPal.
After publishing, your ad will show as Pending while it goes through review. This usually takes a few hours, though TikTok is generally quite fast.
Once approved, head to the Campaigns view to monitor performance data. That's it — your first TikTok ad is live!

Yes — TikTok Ads Manager is more beginner-friendly than Facebook Ads, mainly because TikTok's algorithm does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. The platform actively encourages broad targeting and lets its AI optimize delivery.
The setup process is straightforward, especially with partner integrations like Shopify that simplify pixel installation significantly.
The main challenge for beginners is usually creative — you need engaging vertical video content. But even simple product videos shot on a phone can perform well on TikTok.
10. TikTok Ads vs Facebook Ads
Both platforms are powerful for e-commerce, but they have distinct differences.
TikTok Ads tend to have lower CPMs, a younger audience skewing toward 18–34, and heavy reliance on video content. The algorithm is strong at finding buyers even with broad targeting.
Facebook Ads offer more granular audience targeting, a broader age range, and support for more ad formats (static images, carousels, etc.). Facebook also has more historical data from years of advertiser use.
